Taste the Snacks from Old Japan

chidoriya snakku

Chidoriya 千鳥屋 is a boutique snack company in the southern island of Kyushu. The store was established in 1630 near the port-city of Nagasaki, which was the only place in Japan where western goods were available. Historically Japan didn’t have sugar, and it was only available in Nagasaki. Chidoriya was one of the first snack stores in Japan to utilize sugar in its snacks.

To this day, they continue to stick true to its roots and hand make all the snacks, using only traditional methods and high quality ingredients.

Tirolian (チロリアン)

tirollian japanese snacks

These renowned Tirolian roll cookies have been made using the same recipes and methods since the store opened in 1630. Using only the finest locally sourced ingredients from the island of Kyushu, they’ve continued to make these delicious treats for nearly 400 years. The inner cream filling comes in multiple flavors: chocolate (green wrapping), vanilla, strawberry, and coffee (brown wrapping).

Tirolian Hat (チロリアンハット)

The second most popular snack by Chidoriya. These wafer sandwiches are also handmade and are the perfect light snack for when you’re slightly hungry. They come in 3 flavors: lemon, strawberry, and coffee.

Hanachidori (花千鳥)

These moist manju cakes are made with top-grade finely milled bean paste. They come in two flavors: mellow white bean paste and the rich yellow bean paste mixed with egg yolks.

Tirolian Chococrunch (チロリアンチョコクランチ)

These mini-waffle crunch cookies are made with locally produced milk and butter, and baked for hours at a low temperature. They’re then dipped in rich milk-chocolate and baked again to give it a crispy texture.
