Hakone(箱根) onsen is located at the foothills of Mount Fuji and has been a popular hot spring destination for centuries. It’s a short train ride from Tokyo but is nestled in the mountain valleys overlooking the beautiful Lake Ashinoko, so it’s perfect for nature lovers too. This Miso Manju is made by Shunkado, which has been making snacks in Hakone since 1949. The miso used to make this bun is aged 12 months before it’s kneaded into the dough and then stuffed with locally made sweet red bean Anko paste.
